学校主力提供牛剑式的学院生活，所以选址位于悉尼中心商务区西南的外围地带。现时学校在悉尼有多个校园。一方面是由于学生需求，而于市中心设立特别课室，以供在职人士下班后方便上课；另一方面，由于学校在近十年来不断扩充及合并，亦使学校可以使用的校园地点增加。
悉尼大学的校训是Sidere mens eadem mutato(拉丁文，意思是：繁星纵变，智慧永恒。)，反映出创校当年为保持英式大学的传统。
